Lamp NP84 also known as NP-84 is an 1000-watt diazo exposure lamp used in plate making and screen exposure equipment by M&R / NuArc. Some people refer to it as NP4 / NP-4 or NP80 / NP-80.
Tech tip
To produce the required diazo spectral output, lamp is dosed with small amount of gallium triiodide (GaI3). When cold, GaI3 casts a yellow film on bulb’s inner surface. Once lit the yellow film boils off entering vapor stage of the arc. This is not indicative of a defective or used lamp rather it is the means by which proper UV output is generated.
